Profile: China's Mountain Bike Queen - Ren Chengyuan

Ren Chengyuan (born September 20, 1986), a Chinese cyclist, originally from Suining, Jiangsu Province.
In 2000, at the young age of 14, Ren Chengyuan joined Jiangsu Xuzhou team to train in mountain biking, joined the Jiangsu provincial team in 2004, and was selected for the national team in 2005. In just 7 years, Ren Chengyuan rapidly grew into a world champion. Behind the achievements and honors, how many people know how much blood and sweat Ren Chengyuan has shed?
Zhou Guangke, the current head coach of the national team, was moved by Ren Chengyuan's unyielding spirit and determination, and thus 'took a liking' to her.
In April 2008, during the World Cup Germany leg, Ren Chengyuan fell, injuring her lip and bleeding, but she persevered and won a bronze medal. Only after the race did she treat her wound, which required 9 stitches—4 on the outside and 5 on the inside. She told reporters: "Mountain bike courses are complex, with sudden tree roots, rocks, and ravines. Falls are inevitable; we're used to it. We can only reduce the chance of injury by constantly improving our skills."
During a 2007 training session, Ren Chengyuan injured her hip but didn't say anything. Four or five days later, head coach Zhou Guangke found out. When he pressed on the wound, pus and blood gushed out, yet Ren Chengyuan didn't complain and continued training.
Cycling has long been dominated by Europeans and Americans. Ren Chengyuan, her coach, and her teammates hope to achieve a historic breakthrough in women's mountain biking, similar to Liu Xiang's breaking of the European and American dominance in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
