Cycling into the Masses: A World Expo Public Fitness Ride
On September 13, 2013, the Tour of China (International Road Bicycle Race) kicked off in Xi'an, an ancient city. The opening ceremony was held at the Xi'an World Horticultural Expo Park, the site of the 2011 World Horticultural Exposition and the location of the Xi'an amateur race last month, demonstrating a strong connection with cycling.
Prior to the opening ceremony, a 2013 Tour of China (International Road Bicycle Race) Xi'an World Horticultural Expo Park mass fitness cycling event was held in the Expo Park, attracting over 400 participants. Six cycling formations, composed of cycling enthusiasts from Xi'an, Xianyang, Weinan, and surrounding areas, representatives from sponsoring companies, media representatives, and Expo Park employees, completed a lap around the Expo Park.
Following the event, the organizers held a variety of exciting raffle activities, with all participating cyclists showing great enthusiasm. Many cyclists expressed regret at missing the amateur race on August 31st but were delighted to participate in such a grand cycling event. Others mentioned cycling over 50 kilometers that day but felt it was meaningful to be able to get up close to a world-class event.
Regarding the Tour of China, many cyclists gave high praise. In their view, it's rare for a world-class event to interact with the public, which requires the support of various sponsors. This event particularly benefited from the strong support of the Shaanxi Merida Bicycle Branch Company, which provided custom bikes for the guest and media formations, tents and rest areas, and carefully prepared prizes, all of which were exciting for all attendees.
The beautiful scenery of the Expo Park brought great joy to all participants, and they sincerely wished for the success of the 2013 Tour of China.
